Baptism is the very first sacrament that we celebrate. In this sacrament of the Catholic Church we are sealed, or marked forever, as belonging to Christ. Baptisms are typically scheduled at St. Philip Parish following the 11:00 Liturgy on the First and Third Sunday of each month. Baptism dates are assigned once a Request for Baptism Form has been completed, an interview conducted at your convenience and sponsor letters for Godparents have been forwarded. A Request for Baptism Form can be obtained by calling the Office of Faith Formation at 412-922-6388.
First Reconciliation is typically received in a child’s second grade year. A parent meeting is held each Autumn. First Reconciliation is received as a group in early March.
First Eucharist is typically received in a child’s second grade year. A parent meeting will be held in late March. Students and their families participate in an Afternoon Retreat a few weeks before First Eucharist. Students and their families participate in a rehearsal for First Eucharist a few days before the First Eucharist Liturgy. Confirmation is typically received in a students’ 8th year of religious education. A parent meeting is held in early August. Active participation in at least 2 years of a formal religious education program. In addition, the following Activity Days are expected participation:
- A Day Long Retreat
- An Afternoon Faith Rally
- A Field Trip to Historic Catholic Sites in the Pittsburgh Diocese.
Additional opportunities for Faith Formation throughout the year include service to St. Philip Church, organized service at Catholic Institutions that serve the poor and needy and active participation in the requirements of Catechetical Instruction.
